The Howden airship trail will start at the Co-op in the Market Place and end just pass the Manor House 216 metres long. This was the length of the R.100 airship built at Howden Royal Naval Airship Station (or what was left of it after Mr Hollis four day auction in 1924). The R.100 was designed by Barnes Wallis later to become famous for inventing the "bouncing bomb" used by the famous Dambusters. His chief stress enginer was Nevil Shute Norway better known as the famous author Nevil Shute. The R.100 was built 1926-29 before flying to Cardington, in Befordshire for test flights before flying to Canada and back, in the summer of 1930.
